Radiation Therapy

Radiation Therapy, also known as Radiotherapy, is a highly effective and essential component of modern cancer treatment. It uses high-energy ionized radiation to destroy cancer cells, shrink tumors, and reduce the risk of cancer recurrence while preserving nearby healthy tissues as much as possible. More than half of cancer patients will require radiation therapy at some stage of their treatment journey. Radiation therapy may be used as a primary treatment for cancer, before surgery to shrink tumors, after surgery to decrease the risk of recurrence, together with chemotherapy or immunotherapy, for symptom relief and pain control in advanced cancers, and in selected cases for some benign diseases as well. Radiation therapy is commonly used to treat breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, brain tumors, head and neck cancers, rectal and anal cancers, gynecological cancers, lymphomas, pediatric tumors, bone metastases, and many other conditions. It is also highly effective for palliative treatment to relieve pain, bleeding, neurological symptoms, and airway obstruction. In selected situations, low-dose radiation therapy may also be used for certain benign conditions and inflammatory disorders.

At Advanced Care Oncology Center, we combine advanced technology, precision medicine, and compassionate patient-centered care to provide state-of-the-art radiation therapy services.

Our department is equipped with advanced radiation therapy technology, including the Elekta Versa HD linear accelerator, Varian Halcyon linear accelerator, and Vision RT Surface Guided Radiation Therapy for tattoo-less treatment. These state-of-the-art treatment platforms allow highly accurate tumor targeting, advanced imaging, improved treatment precision, enhanced patient comfort, and reduced radiation exposure to surrounding healthy organs. Using modern radiation therapy techniques and advanced planning systems, we are able to deliver safe, effective, and personalized treatments for a wide range of cancers and complex clinical conditions.

The radiation therapy patient journey begins with an initial consultation, where the patient meets with the radiation oncologist to discuss the diagnosis, staging, treatment options, expected benefits, potential side effects, and overall treatment plan. Previous imaging, pathology reports, and laboratory results are carefully reviewed to ensure a personalized treatment approach. Patients then undergo CT simulation and immobilization, where a specialized planning CT scan is performed in the treatment position. Immobilization devices may be created to help maintain the same position during each treatment session, an essential step for accurate treatment planning.

Following simulation, a multidisciplinary team including radiation oncologists, medical physicists, and radiation therapists works together to design a customized treatment plan that delivers the optimal radiation dose to the tumor while minimizing exposure to healthy tissues. Before treatment begins, extensive quality assurance and safety checks are performed to ensure treatment accuracy and patient safety. Radiation treatment is typically delivered daily, Monday through Friday, over several sessions depending on the cancer type and treatment protocol. Each session usually lasts 10–30 minutes, while the actual radiation delivery takes only a few minutes. The treatment itself is painless and non-invasive. During treatment, patients are monitored regularly through weekly on-treatment reviews to assess treatment tolerance, manage side effects, and provide nutritional and supportive care. After treatment completion, patients continue regular follow-up visits to evaluate treatment response, monitor recovery, detect any recurrence early, and manage long-term side effects if needed.

At Advanced Care Oncology Center, we are committed to delivering advanced evidence-based cancer care, precision radiation therapy, personalized treatment plans, multidisciplinary collaboration, compassionate patient support, and international safety and quality standards. Through cutting-edge technology and an experienced multidisciplinary team, we strive to provide the highest level of care and improve outcomes and quality of life for our patients.
